Donald E. Rice

Age 86
Born in The Dalles, Don graduated from Olympia High School, St. Louis University (BS in aeronautics), and University of Connecticut (MBA).
He served 23 years in the U.S. Army/Air Force during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1969. Don loved to fly, he was a jet fighter pilot and a Bronze Star recipient.
He embarked on a second career in business administration for Lake Oswego School District and Multnomah ESD, retiring again in 1988.
Love for family and a deep faith in God earmarked his life choices and he was a beacon for many. Don was a devoted member of Kern Park Christian Church, serving as elder emeritus, board chairman, choir member and teacher. Don is remembered as loving, encouraging, peaceful, generous and kind to all.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marchi; children, Susan Chavez and Douglas Rice (Tamera); six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and extended family. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Kern Park Christian Church, 6828 S.E. Holgate Blvd., Portland.
